If you would like to debate some of the issues brought up on this site, don't expect me to reply by E-mail.
Debate is best conducted in public, where onlookers can keep it honest.
Some on-line places to debate the issues brought up on this site are the
misc.education
Usenet newsgroup,
the topic of which is "discussion of the educational system,"
the misc.education.home-school.misc
Usenet newsgroup,
the topic of which is "almost anything about home-schooling," and
the misc.education.home-school.christian
Usenet newsgroup,
the topic of which is "Christian home-schooling."
Alas, the atmosphere of discussion on Usenet is neither civil nor informed, most of the time,
nor are most Usenet messages in unmoderated newsgroups even on-topic.
Nonetheless, good Internet netiquette ("netiquette") is to keep debates off of guest books,
private E-mail,
and other places designated for other forms of communication.
I participate in the newsgroups mentioned above when I have the time (which is increasingly rarely as my children grow older)
and am sure that you will find other people of every imaginable point of view in those on-line places for debate and expression of opinion.
On-Line Homeschooling Support Groups
Here I'm listing only a few of my favorite sites in this ever-growing category.
You are much more likely to get a fast answer to an informational question on a discussion board than by E-mailing keepers of information Web sites.
You can find quite a complete list of Homeschooling Message Boards on the Web at the Finding Homeschool Support on the Internet site,
which has good content that make its obnoxious Geocities advertisements worth putting up with.
On the same site you can also find very detailed information about
mailing lists,
Internet Relay Chats,
and other on-line discussion opportunities for homeschoolers.
Each board or mailing list has its own flavor.
Visit a few and decide which one you find the most informative and helpful, and then join in and answer the questions of other participants.
Sharing is what on-line discussion is all about.
-
Homeschoolers Curriculum Swap
- Possibly the earliest Web-based solution for trading used curricular materials
and site of very interesting discussion boards and interesting archived discussions.
The main discussion board on the Swap is one of my favorite places for exchanging information with other parents
because several of my oldest on-line friends hang out there.
The political atmosphere is hard-line pro-life, generally "social-issue conservative,"
and the homeschooling atmosphere is mainly Christian on the Swap boards.
The Swap site has other useful resources, including the
On-Line Abbreviation List that I had a hand in putting together some years ago.
-
The Home Education Mailing List
- Web home page for the earliest known general homeschooling discussion E-mail mailing list,
still populated by many of the pioneers in on-line discusion of homeschooling.
Mail volume is heavy and topics are diverse.
Expect to find the full range of political and religious opinion here you would find in the general population;
in other words, don't expect that everyone will agree with you here.
I read the "on-topic digest" to this list and post only occasionally.
General Homeschool Message Board
- Web-based discussion board hosted by Mary Leggewie,
with unabashedly conservative Christian atmosphere.
I post messages to this board once in a while and lurk on other occasions.
-
Home School Train Up A Child (HSTUAC)
- Web page introducing an active E-mail mailing list of mostly Christian homeschoolers.
I get the digest of this busy list and post every once in a while.

Please write with your comments, especially on on-line discussion groups about education!
I really appreciate your comments.
All E-mail to the Web master
with a valid return address receives an immediate,
automated reply with answers to the questions readers have most frequently asked me about this site.
Please note that my E-mail address in the link on this page is protected against robots collecting addresses for junk E-mailers by adding the characters "%20" before the actual E-mail address in all my E-mail links.
You can simply remove those characters from the beginning of the address line on your E-mail program if they appear on the address line, to ensure you send E-mail to the real Web master address for this site.
You can usually get fast and helpful answers to specific questions about education policy, homeschooling, or other issues brought up on this site from public discussion groups where many people participate, because "in multitude of counselors there is victory."
This site's increasingly obsolete, but still very comprehensive,
Education-Related Newsgroups FAQ is another set of links to on-line discussion groups,
those using Usenet technical standards.
